Science Based Targets initiative

Polygon Group has officially received approval from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for our near-term science-based emissions reduction targets.

This approval underscores our commitment to combating climate change and aligning our business and targets with the most rigorous climate science as well as the principles of the Paris Agreement.

Targets

Our approved targets include substantial reductions in all three scopes of emissions. Polygon Group AB commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 42% by 2030. *

Polygon Group AB also commits to reducing scope 3 GHG emissions 51.6% per EUR of value added within the same timeframe.

* From a 2022 base year. The target boundary includes land-related emissions and removals from bioenergy feedstocks

Progress

Polygon will publish its progress towards the targets annually.

Real action

  • Polygon's core business has long been centered around restoring and repairing rather than replacing damaged property. Further, Polygon has during the years developed prevention, control, and assessment services to reduce environmental impact and financial costs for its customers.
  • Polygon Group is currently accelerating its efforts in implementing a range of initiatives to achieve its near-term science-based targets.
  • As Polygon operates globally, the Group has allocated emissions budgets to all of its 18 countries as part of the business and budget planning.
  • Actions are centered around the key drivers in the Group’s environmental footprint and are conducted by colleagues in close collaboration with customers, suppliers and other stakeholders.
  • These key drivers are fuel used in our vans and cars, power used in our equipment at customer sites as well as purchases of material, services and waste management.
  • Polygon is advancing its efforts by scaling the use of IoT services and solutions. These are reducing emissions by preventing and controlling the negative effect of water and climate on buildings as well as limiting the energy usage at customer sites.

Leading Sustainable Property Damage Control

The Group is growing its business with a sustainable portfolio of services and transforming Polygon into the new generation of property damage control specialists.

As Polygon Group moves forward, we will continue to engage all stakeholders—employees, suppliers, and customers. This collective effort is critical to align with the ambitious targets set by global climate science and to ensure a sustainable future for all. Always by your side.

Axel Gränitz, CEO of Polygon Group

“Our science-based target proves our commitment to building a sustainable business, by doing not what is easy but what is necessary. I want my colleagues to feel proud of working for Polygon and by letting science lead our course of action we are preparing our business for the future and supporting our customers on their environmental journey."

About SBTi

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global body enabling businesses to set ambitious emissions reductions targets in line with the latest climate science. It is focused on accelerating companies across the world to halve emissions before 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions before 2050.

FAQs - Science Based Targets Initiative

Polygon’s scope 1, 2, 3 emissions

Scope 1 (Direct Emissions)

For Polygon, these direct carbon that we produce derives mainly from fuel used in our vehicles, the fuel we supply and use in our equipment, and the gas used to heat our depots, as well as from fugitive emissions.

Scope 2 (Indirect Emissions from Purchased Energy)
For Polygon, this principally refers to the electricity we consume to operate our depots and the heating we purchase.

Scope 3 (Other Indirect Emissions)
For Polygon, the largest source of this indirect carbon are: power used in our equipment at customer sites, purchases of material and services (sub-contractors), and waste. Additionally, it includes purchased transportation, business travel, capital goods, employee commuting, and franchisees.

”The latest climate science from The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) - described by the UN as “code red for humanity” - shows it is still possible to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C, but that we are dangerously close to that threshold. Polygon is proud to have set a science-based target, positioning us as corporate leaders of the low-carbon transition.”
