Social responsibility leads to competent employees

Some time ago, Polygon AS in Norway signed a group agreement with Ringer i Vannet (Rings in the Water), an NHO (the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise) joint venture to help people who have for various reasons ended up outside the workforce. Polygon Bergen was first out and in April 2018, the first employee was hired as a decontamination technician. And they were followed by several more.

Ringer i Vannet and the company start by performing an in-depth needs assessment and use their network to find appropriate candidates, who then go through a recruitment process. If the right match is found, a probationary period is started with the goal of permanent employment later on.

In other words, the goal is to pair job seekers with the right company. Every year, this recruitment method leads to more than 1,500 people in Norway finding permanent jobs through Ringer i Vannet.

“Polygon has an ambition to be the damage restoration industry’s leading player when it comes to social responsibility. As part of the “Our Responsibility” program, we seek to take care of our employees but also to provide opportunities to those who have for some reason encountered obstacles in their working life”, says Polygon AS HR Manager Jeanette Vannebo.

Last summer the accounting department in Oslo carried out a recruitment through Ringer i Vannet. They started by interviewing 12 candidates, four of whom went on to a second interview. After having finally found the right candidate, he or she worked for a probationary period of three months. The probationary period went well and led to a permanent contract.

A week or two ago, Polygon hired yet another employee after a probationary period and the company is working actively to spread this practice to the rest of the country.

“Several local NHO offices have contacted us and we hope to be able to establish a collaboration in more Polygon regions,” say Jeanette Vannebo.

Because this is not just something that is good for the job seeker,” she assures. “Polygon also has a great deal to gain”.

“This has been a very positive method for recruitment, where both sides get to see how it works and feels. And in the end we benefit from access to new skilled, motivated and loyal employees,” says Jeanette empathically.
