Does your home insurance cover leak detection?

There’s a good chance your home insurance will cover the cost of finding and fixing a leak. While it’s not a guarantee, most policies include cover for “trace and access” as part of their agreement.

If this is the case, you’ll be able to claim back the costs you’ve spent on leak detection.  We work with all UK insurers, which means you should have trace and access insurance cover - regardless of who you’ve taken out a policy with.

In most cases, Polygon can help you claim back the cost of the service. We’ll provide a report, which makes it easier to present a claim to your insurer, saving you time.

FAQ's

How do I know if I've got a leak?

If you suspect you have a leak within your property but are unsure of its exact location, you should turn off your internal mains water stopcock and then check the dial on your meter. If your meter dial is still moving, then you may have a leak within your boundary. If you turn back on your internal stopcock and the meter starts to move this suggests that the leaks is within your property. If the meter does not move it suggests that the leak is not related to any of your pipework and maybe an external source or waste pipe.

Can you fix a leak once you find it?

Polygon offers a repair service. Once the leak has been identified the technician will determine whether the repair is something that we can conduct at the time of the visit. In the unlikely event we cannot repair the leak, Polygon will provide a comprehensive report detailing the best course of action to remedy the issue. This can then be passed directly on to your plumber or insurer for repair.

What is Trace and Access?

Polygon offers a unique Trace & Access service, guaranteeing to find the source of a leak without causing unnecessary destruction. Our skill set enables us to carry out the work quickly and cost effectively, whilst delivering a robust service to discover and remediate the leak. The area will be made safe and secure, whilst our fully qualified engineering team undertakes all repair work required.

How do I dry my property after a leak has been repaired?

Once a leak has been repaired, it is very important that the area is properly dried. Polygon can undertake a full forced drying program using the appropriate type of dehumidifier and will issue a drying certificate upon completion. The drying is likely to be covered by your household insurance policy.  If you speak with one of our advisors they can guide you through the process.
