5 New Years Resolutions: Protect Your Documents

Do you have a recovery plan for your vital records? Resolve to be Ready in 2015 with our top 5 tips for Document Recovery. Check out our suggestions for New Years Resolutions you can incorporate into your Documents Preparedness Plan this year.

New Years Resolutions:

1. Establish a working relationship with a trusted disaster recovery firm.
Find a disaster recovery firm that can meet your company’s geographic needs, and has the capacity to cover your inventory of documents. If the company offers planning services, collaborate with them so they may respond with the necessary resources when you have a disaster.

2. Practice your plan.
Get together with your recovery partner and practice a loss scenario. If possible, have as many of your staff available as possible to assist in the simulated stabilization of damaged records.

3. Inventory.
Put together a detailed inventory of what records you have and where they are located. When possible move critical documents off of the floor and close to an access point. During the inventory you may discover records that are no longer needed. Arrange for secure destruction with a trusted company.

4. Prioritize.
In conjunction with your recovery partner, begin identifying and prioritizing your records. Taking the time now to have a detailed inventory and priority list will pay big dividends in the event of a loss.

5. Review Your Insurance.
In catastrophic situations there will be insurance professionals involved. Doing an annual insurance review will make sure your coverage matches the changing needs of your company.
