In bustling urban landscapes, daily challenges arise not just from fulfilling customer expectations but also from navigating the congested streets that define rush hour. Cities worldwide face similar issues of gridlock and inefficiency, making it essential to explore innovative solutions. Polygon France has introduced a new initiative towards sustainability by introducing electric cargo bikes into its operations.
“In Paris, rush hour traffic can reach 200–300 kilometers of jams. If our technicians fall behind schedule, it frustrates our customers,” shares Damien, Country President of Polygon France. Recognizing the need for a solution that balances customer satisfaction with operational efficiency, Polygon launched the e-bike initiative. By replacing traditional vans with electric cargo bikes, technicians can navigate urban areas more swiftly, avoiding gridlock and meeting customer needs on time.
Our environmental near-term reduction targets have been validated and approved by the Science Based Targets initiative. The group has allocated emission budgets to its legal entities, which are actively working to implement local initiatives to reach the Group’s emission reduction target. This is one example from our French colleagues.
Beni, a technician from Polygon France participating in the pilot, highlights the positive response from customers:
“They don’t expect me to arrive by bike — they expect a technician in a van. They’re pleasantly surprised. They see it as Polygon’s commitment to the environment and to sustainability.”
This transition underscores Polygon's dedication to reducing its carbon footprint while fostering a culture of environmental awareness.
Camilla Annerling Barck, Group Head of Sustainability at Polygon, emphasizes the commitment to emission reduction:
“We measure the Group’s environmental impact. One of the largest drivers is the fuel used in our vans and cars, which we are actively working to reduce by using, for example, video inspection, remote monitoring, route planning, and driving feedback systems”.
After several months of testing, the results of the pilot project have been overwhelmingly positive. Damien notes, “We’ve achieved our goal of transforming a car-based technician into a bike-based one, both economically and environmentally.” The success of the project has spurred plans for expansion to other major French cities, including Lyon and Bordeaux.
Camilla adds, “This initiative proves that sustainable practices can go hand in hand with operational efficiency. By scaling this model, we’re not just reducing emissions but also enhancing the well-being of our employees.”
The benefits of the e-bike initiative extend beyond sustainability. “Cycling is a huge time-saver. It also benefits productivity and fitness — it keeps us fit while working,” Beni explains. This holistic approach to mobility reflects Polygon’s commitment to supporting employees while delivering exceptional service to customers.
Our core business is to restore and repair rather than replace, making our services a sustainable choice for managing property damage. Additionally, the group has further developed prevention solutions to help prevent damage from occurring in the first place.
“Our aim is to inspire others. Sustainability isn’t just a goal for Polygon — as the global leader in our industry, it’s our responsibility to lead a sustainable transformation,” concludes Camilla.
