World Environment Day is a global platform for inspiring positive change. People from more than 150 countries participate in this United Nations international day, which celebrates environmental action and the power of governments, businesses and individuals to create a more sustainable world. The event has been led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) since its inception in 1973. The theme for World Environment Day on June 5th 2023 will focus on solutions to plastic pollution under the campaign #BeatPlasticPollution.
Polygon's long term business focus of damage restoration rather than replacement, coupled with preventative and control services, has always been an environmentally responsible approach. But there is more that can be done to support customers in achieving their environmental goals, meet Polygon's own environmental goals and respond to the urgent call of the United Nations. Polygon understands the urgency of addressing the pressing issue of climate change and therefore made a Group decision to commit to the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) to set near-term group-wide emission reduction targets in line with climate science.
Polygon Group is conducting annual assessments of its global environmental footprint (Scope 1, 2, and 3), with the support of a leader in carbon accounting. The reduction activities are centred around the key drivers in this footprint. Polygon aims to restore, repair and reuse as much as possible to limit the volume of waste and the need for new material. Recycling rates are being followed up and procedures established to guide our around 7 000 employees in making the right decisions.
