California Creates Tougher Building Codes for Mobile Homes

In the wake of the recent wildfires, the Los Angeles Times reports that supervisors of LA County have approved a motion that could help mobile homes be better protected from wildfires. Recently, more than 500 homes in Sylmar, CA were destroyed due to the flames that are affecting so many.

Governor Schwarzenegger stated during a news conference: “We should start thinking about building all of the mobile homes with the same fire retardant that’s used . . . in those fire-prone areas where we build homes. I think that would have saved, probably, a lot of those mobile homes… The fire went through . . . the mobile park so quickly that there was no way of stopping anything, because they were like matches. So we learn from that “
A month prior to the Oakridge Mobile Home Park fire, about 30 homes were destroyed by a wildfire at the Sky Terrace Mobile Lodge in Lake View Terrace.
