Climate Control Solutions in Grow Rooms Save Cannabis Crops

At the time of publication, 26 states and the District of Columbia have enacted laws that legalize the use of cannabis for medicinal purposes. Similarly, seven states and the District of Columbia legalized cannabis for recreational use. With the growing decriminalization of marijuana comes increased production of the medicinal crop. Because temperatures, humidity levels, and ventilation rates are crucial to the success and healthfulness of cannabis plants, growers look to Polygon’s custom climate control solutions for all areas of their operation—from grow rooms to storage areas and labs—to not only save their crops but also their capital.

How Two Operations Benefited from Temperature & Humidity Control Solutions

When growers based out of Maine and Rhode Island contacted Polygon about their temperature and moisture control needs, they were losing between 50 and 100 of their crops to mold contamination. Polygon worked closely with the cultivators, designing custom solutions that met their exact growing needs.

Maine Grower

With several dispensaries throughout the state, Polygon’s client in Maine experienced significant mold-related losses because of the difficulties that come with manually controlling environmental conditions. The project began with the delivery of an HC-2250 desiccant dehumidifier in August 2016. After some trial and error, Polygon determined that the HC-4500 model would be a better fit. The grower’s climate control solution now consists of an R-10000 desiccant dehumidifier, which re-circulates air from the existing HVAC’s return plenum to maintain relative humidity levels of 50 percent in the client’s grow facility. The operation has four grow rooms with up to 200 plants each.

Rhode Island Grower

Polygon’s Rhode Island-based client had four grow rooms with up to 60 plants. In March 2017, Polygon installed an R-5000 desiccant dehumidifier that also re-circulated air from the facility’s HVAC’s return plenum to maintain relative humidity levels of 50 percent.

After implementing Polygon’s moisture control solutions, both facilities reported that plant losses dropped down to less than 1 percent. With plants being worth as much as $4,000 each, increasing a facility’s yield by just 400 plants per crop can save it up to $1.6 million. One of the cultivators stated that the climate control solution was beneficial to growth in his facility because it helped plants transpire the moisture in the air more readily, which allowed them to draw in water and nutrients better. In turn, the plants grew faster.

Ideal Places to Implement Temperature & Humidity Control Solutions

In addition, to grow rooms, climate control solutions are beneficial in:

  • Greenhouses
  • Drying and curing rooms
  • Storage areas
  • Preparation and processing areas
  • Laboratories

Polygon’s custom solutions include designing a system that works best for your operation’s needs. In addition to selling climate control equipment, Polygon also allows clients to rent it for as long as they need. This allows you to find a solution that’s a good fit for your facility without the risks or overhead costs of purchasing and maintaining the equipment.

Proper temperature, humidity, and ventilation control not only protects the health of the plants you grow, but it also helps safeguard the health of the building and, more importantly, those inside it. When outside conditions aren’t conducive to cannabis growing, harvesting, and processing, Polygon’s custom climate control solutions offer round-the-clock monitoring and control of temperatures, humidity levels, and ventilation rates, allowing you to focus more on delivering healthy products to your clients without worrying about environmental conditions surrounding your plants.
