Political activist, publisher, journalist, entrepreneur, and orator Marcus Garvey once stated, “A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots.” As such, valuable historical texts, books, documents, artworks, and ancient artifacts enable future generations to learn about their past, enabling discoveries of humankind’s triumphs and foibles over the years, engendering understanding that will allow for a better future.

Every year, the Midwest Archives Conference (MAC) comes together for an annual meeting that features a variety of breakout sessions designed for archivists. The 2019 Annual Meeting will be held from April 3-6 in Detroit, Michigan. This year’s theme, “Innovations, Transformation, Resurgence,” will consider how archivists can transform their local communities.

The Library Administrators Conference of Northern Illionois, better known as LACONI, has successfully introduced new technologies, best practices, and programs to library staff since 1954. This Friday, the organization is holding a Tech Services event on Disaster Preparedness and Post-Disaster Clean-Up. The event will take place from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on March 8th at Tinley Park Public Library in Tinley Park, Illinois.
