Articles – Major & Complex Claims, Our People

Update from John Cotton

I hope you’re doing well, As we reach the end of Q1, I’d like to provide a brief recap of the quarter from my perspective. This quarter has been eventful, marked by significant developments and challenges.

One noteworthy trend is the rise in Lithium-Battery fire instructions, which has drawn considerable interest from loss adjusters. We've hosted key players in the LA market to raise awareness about this type of fire and the importance of safeguarding policyholders and ensuring safety before clean-up and restoration. We plan to continue holding these briefing/awareness sessions across Q2 for anyone who has not yet attended.

We've supported a significant European partner with large-scale drying of modular buildings across multiple sites, addressing high moisture levels and mould with innovative techniques from Germany, trialling in the UK for the first time. We’ve also increased our project management team to support this type of work and the increased instructions from the educational, manufacturing, construction, and logistics sectors.

At the beginning of March, we received great news that Polygon Major and Complex Claims had been shortlisted for the Modern Claim Awards. We are also proud that Polygon's Primo+ product has been shortlisted by the Business Continuity Awards. Primo+ provides emergency assistance to key clients across the UK to mitigate loss and ensure an efficient return to trading.

There's been some spectacular industry events in Q1, where we have met existing clients to catch up and a lot of interest from prospective new clients especially at some of the I Love Claims events in London and Telford, as well as hosting and celebrating success with key clients at the Bolton CII Dinner back in February.

In more niche areas, our work in the utilities sector has grown substantially over the last six months, supported by our partnership with key utilities providers and significant interest from new prospective clients based on recommendations on work completed specifically in the Midlands and London. We have also noted an increase in trauma claims, recently supporting several sites with urgent biohazard clean-up following serious incidents.

Looking ahead, we remain committed to maintaining our high standards and delivering exceptional service. Lastly, the MCC team will be moving to new offices in April in Chasetown to support further growth and additional service lines.

I’m confident that our team will continue to rise to the occasion and tackle any challenges that come our way.

Thank you for the opportunity to share these insights.
