Mould Restoration Solutions

Mould growth stems from various factors, including undetected or poorly restored water damage, poor ventilation, climatic extremes, or underperforming HVAC systems. We understand that the composition of wet materials, airflow, and humidity levels all influence the remediation approach. We must identify the root causes of the mould to both prevent recurrence and select the most effective restoration methods.

How We Restore

Remediation may require specialised equipment like heat mats or heat sticks, in addition to standard tools. In certain cases, we can also take on the full site restoration, including replacing wall and floor materials or rebuilding fittings.

Furthermore, our specialist document restoration team is available to assist with restoring any affected artefacts, photographs, or documents off-site at our Newbury depot.

Mould Restoration Process

1

Initial Survey

Our team will initially survey the property to identify the likely cause of the mould and determine the relevant remediation methods.

2

Mould Removal

Decontamination of the affected areas with an appropriate anti-microbial will sanitise any contaminated surfaces and prevent cross-contamination.

3

Drying

A combination of dehumidification and heating will be deployed. This is monitored to restore healthy ventilation conditions.

4

Cleaning

Cleaning may include the removal of plaster and wood where contamination is severe or dry/wet rot has taken hold. It also involves odour removal.

The Dangers of Damp and Mould

Mould growth in collections is a severe problem. Not only is the fungal contamination highly damaging to the surfaces it grows on, but it also presents serious health and safety risks for staff and public handling the collections.

Mould is classified as a category one risk to health (the same class as asbestos) under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System 2000, and the Environmental Protection Act (1990) requires it to be treated as a statutory nuisance. Appointing an expert to implement a programme of mould reporting, cause identification, and remediation is essential for protecting both your assets and your people.

Prioritised Mould Risk Management

Our Damp and Mould programme is designed to address critical properties in order of priority and risk. We deliver a comprehensive report detailing the extent, cause, and plan to resolve the issues. This programme includes recommending and undertaking necessary remediation and reinstatement work.

Crucially, we also recommend installing monitoring technology to track humidity and detect water leaks in high-risk properties, giving you direct alerts to prevent future damp and mould problems before they take hold.
