Polygon's Commitment to Sustainability

With World Earth Day taking place this week, it’s the perfect moment to pause and reflect, not just on the planet we share, but also on the role we play as individuals and organisations in shaping a more sustainable future. At Polygon, sustainability isn’t just a side note, it’s at the very core of what we do. Every decision, every innovation, and every restoration project reflects our commitment to doing better for the environment and the communities we serve.

Restoration Over Replacement: The Heart of Our Business

At the centre of Polygon’s environmental mission lies a simple but powerful philosophy: restoration over replacement. This isn’t just a cost-effective approach, it’s a conscious decision to reduce the use of new materials, minimise waste, and ultimately, protect our planet.

Not so long ago, fire and water damage often meant one thing: stripping out interiors and disposing of damaged belongings and appliances. Today, thanks to cutting-edge technology and a network of skilled subcontractors, we’re able to fully restore both homes and contents in most claims. This means fewer materials are going to landfills and fewer materials are used overall.

Innovating with Smart Technology

Our drive for sustainability has also led to innovations in preventative technology, with a keen focus on loT (Internet of Things). Take PolyStop, for instance, our smart device that learns water usage habits and cuts off the central water supply at the first sign of abnormal activity. It’s just one example of how we’re using smart tech to stop damage before it starts and reduce environmental impact along the way.

Minimising Landfill Waste

The benefits of restoration over replacement go far beyond convenience. Extensive strip-outs contribute significantly to landfill waste, and as that waste decomposes, it releases methane gas, a major contributor to global warming. By restoring rather than replacing, we’re helping to shrink our environmental footprint and cut down on emissions caused by waste.

Sustainability is Our Responsibility

For us, environmental responsibility isn’t a one-off campaign, it’s woven into the fabric of our business. We’re constantly seeking new ways to improve our environmental performance while staying true to our values.

One step we’ve taken is the adoption of Lightfoot technology across all company vehicles. This driver-assist tech monitors driving behaviours like harsh acceleration, helping to cut down on fuel usage and emissions, a small change with a big impact.

We’re also proud of the work we’ve done in collaboration with the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. Together, we conducted a study that showed our bespoke Water Damage Restoration (WDR) services reduce CO₂ emissions by an impressive 25%. You can read the full findings HERE.

Recognition and Results

Our efforts haven’t gone unnoticed. Polygon UK recently renewed its Achilles Green Company accreditation for the third consecutive year. The Achilles Green Status is a benchmark in sustainability, corporate responsibility, health and safety, and quality. We’re proud to have scored 100% across the board in all these areas.

We’ve also planted over 5,250 trees in the past year alone, and since 2014, our ongoing environmental initiatives have helped us avoid over 2,965 tons of CO₂ emissions.

Looking Ahead

Sustainability isn’t a finish line, it’s an ongoing journey. As we celebrate World Earth Day, we reaffirm our commitment to finding smarter, greener ways to serve our customers and protect the planet. At Polygon, we’re not just restoring buildings, we’re helping to restore balance to the environment, one project at a time.
