Case studies – Fire Damage Restoration

Trauma Claim at Major UK Hotel

Polygon was appointed by the manager of a leading hotel chain to carry out an urgent biohazard clean-up following a serious incident in the guest room at one of its locations. A hotel guest suffered a severe injury, leading to substantial blood loss that contaminated both the bedroom and bathroom areas. The contamination affected not only the building fabric but also some of the room’s furnishings, rendering the space unfit for use. Until the decontamination was completed, the hotel was unable to sell the room, resulting in potential revenue loss.

Challenge

Given the biohazardous nature of the contamination, the clean-up needed to be handled with the utmost professionalism and discretion. The primary challenge was to restore the room to a safe and hygienic condition while ensuring minimal disruption to hotel guests and daily operations.

Polygon worked closely with the hotel to assess the extent of the contamination and provide a detailed scope of work for the decontamination process. The nature of the incident required a highly coordinated approach, ensuring that the clean-up adhered to strict health and safety regulations while being executed as quickly as possible to minimise revenue loss.

One of the key considerations was scheduling the work at a time that would have the least impact on hotel operations. Additionally, the clean-up needed to be carried out in a way that maintained guest comfort and confidentiality, preventing unnecessary concern or distress to other patrons and staff members.

Solution:

Upon receiving approval, Polygon mobilised its expert team to carry out the decontamination process efficiently and professionally. Using industry-leading cleaning techniques and specialist biohazard remediation equipment, the team ensured that all affected areas were thoroughly sanitised.

The operation was conducted discreetly to avoid drawing attention and to maintain the hotel’s reputation.

One of the major successes of the project was the successful salvage of the room’s carpet, eliminating the need for costly removal, disposal, and replacement. This not only saved the client significant expense but also accelerated the room’s readiness for resale.

The team at the hotel were highly satisfied with the work carried out, particularly praising the seamless management of the claim and the level of care and dignity demonstrated throughout the process.

Thanks to Polygon’s swift response and meticulous execution, the hotel was able to put the room back on the market immediately, preventing any prolonged loss of revenue.

Outcome:

  • Rapid response and execution ensured minimal disruption to hotel operations and guest experience.

  • Professional and discreet decontamination upheld the hotel’s high standards of hygiene and reputation.

  • A cost-effective approach enabled the salvage of the carpet, reducing unnecessary expenses.

  • Immediate room resale prevented further revenue loss for the hotel group.

  • Polygon’s expertise in biohazard decontamination once again proved invaluable, delivering an efficient, professional, and cost-conscious solution that met the client’s needs while upholding the highest standards of safety and discretion.
