Case studies – Leak Detection

A Grand Job on a Grand Designs Home

Like their colleagues across the UK, our Polygon North West team is often called in to tackle claims at some truly fascinating properties. One recent case certainly stood out, a striking home featured on Grand Designs that had suffered water damage from an unknown internal source.

A Major Concern for the Homeowner and Insurer

Naturally, this was a major blow to the homeowner, especially after pouring so much time, energy, and money into creating something truly special. It was also a significant concern for the insurer. Thankfully, they trusted Polygon to handle the situation, knowing that we’ve got the right people, deep knowledge, and cutting-edge technology to deal with exactly this kind of challenge.

Pinpointing the Problem with Leak Detection Technology

Using advanced Leak Detection technology, we non-destructively traced the source of the leak and pinpointed the culprit: a damaged hidden pipe in a room above the property’s basement cinema. Once located, accessed, and repaired by one of our expert technicians, we moved on to moisture mapping, the process of determining how far the water had spread and what steps were needed to reduce the impact.

High Pressure Vacuum Drying: Drying Without the Disruption

To remediate the damage while keeping disruption to a minimum for the family (who were still living in the home), we deployed High Pressure Vacuum Drying (HPV), one of our specialist techniques for drying floating floors, cavities, and voids.

This process involves making several small, unobtrusive holes in the floor or wall, all of which are easily filled later. A high-pressure vacuum pump is then attached, and moisture-controlled air is circulated through the affected area. We also carefully monitor moisture levels in the air and throughout the property to ensure everything is safely returning to its pre-incident state, with no risk of hidden damage lingering behind.

The Outcome: Happy Homeowner, Happy Insurer, Happy Tech

The result? A delighted homeowner, who didn’t have to endure the nightmare of their prized flooring being ripped up. A very happy insurer, who avoided the cost of said flooring being ripped up. And a satisfied technician, proud to issue a certificate declaring the property dry and sound once again.

Grand job all round.
