Efficient Climate Control for Winter Tank Refurbishment

Due to tank dimensions equal to 22,911 m2 and the project running through the middle of winter, this was a large-scale project. Site location and terrain, although beautiful, were difficult to get to, and installation of our equipment on a reasonable lay-down area to ensure proper delivery of the processed and heated air to the tank presented its challenges. Our Technicians worked hard and managed to site the equipment in an accessible area and close enough to the target area for the processed air not to be affected by lengthy ducting distances.

The Process

Our specialist technicians sized the equipment correctly, meaning the equipment supplied was correct for the conditions required inside the tank and extremely energy efficient. It also meant the correct siting position allowed our refuel process to run smoothly as the tanker had adequate access to the fuel tanks.

Large heater and dehumidification sets were used. The large equipment would also require a larger generator to power the equipment and a fuel tank/fuel management system to run everything.

We also balanced the heated air with the processed air to allow a one duct delivery system, which meant better access and egress to the tank area, which wasn’t restricted by too much ducting entering the entrance area to the required point of delivery.

The Solution

Polygon's experienced and highly trained staff consulted with the customer on the best solutions for their tank projects. By utilising Polygon’s state-of-the-art climate control equipment, conditions are closely controlled to maintain surface dew point and temperature throughout the recoat process. This technology ensures that the contractor receives only the equipment required to meet the project specifications while maximising efficiency and guaranteeing the highest possible results.

Outcome

As Polygon offer a climate solution to the client, we are not put off by difficult or hard-to-reach sites and can always engineer a solution to suit the environment and client requirements.
