Low-Noise Climate Control for Elevated Water Tank Refurbishment

The water tanks cubic capacity is an area of 140 cubic metres which must be refurbished and waterproofed, but we have to find a solution to supply the process and heated air to achieve the right conditions and to do this the process equipment has to be sited at height 150ft above ground level, maintaining the correct temperature and relative humidity levels is most definitely challenging.

The water tank tower is also at the edge of a housing scheme, and the power equipment has to run 24/7 to power our equipment, maintaining the correct conditions during the curing process. This is another challenge which we had to overcome, as we could not run standard equipment without causing noise pollution.

The Process

The structural engineering contractor engaged Polygon’s specialist to ensure very specific environmental parameters were met and that the site works would not cause disturbance to homeowners in the nearby housing.

Polygon UK were tasked with providing the desired ambient conditions for the contractor to carry out its work. In the preparation phase, the specialist team carried out the necessary calculations to determine the scale of equipment needed to meet the temperature and dehumidification requirements.

The Solution

We decided to use a smaller, lighter dehumidifier and heater package and ensured noise levels of the power equipment were kept to a minimum by siting the silenced generator as far away from the housing locations as we could, siting the fuel tank next to it with sound-deadening boards to further reduce noise levels.

Outcome

At Polygon, we are always focused on engineering tailored climate solutions that are right the first time. We were able to support our client and enable them to complete another quality application, ensuring asset integrity for years to come.
