Environmental Control for Large-Scale Underground Water Tank Repair

When a water tank has a capacity of more than 18,000 cubic metres, maintaining the correct temperature and relative humidity levels is challenging. When looking to maintain an underground water tank of this scale at a rural site, the structural engineering contractor engaged Polygon’s specialist teams to help ensure very specific environmental parameters were met.

Climate Success at Braemar Lodge Bridge

Braemar Lodge Hotel is located deep within Scotland’s Cairngorms National Park, near the royal Balmoral Estate. On the grounds sits a steel road bridge that crosses Clunie Water, a tributary of the River Dee. Due to its exposure to harsh weather, the bridge undergoes regular maintenance to protect it from corrosion. This process includes abrasive blasting of the surface, followed by repainting, both of which must occur under tightly controlled atmospheric conditions to ensure the integrity and durability of the protective coating.

Moisture Control Keeps Sprouts Fresh

When you’re responsible for processing around 17,000 tonnes of brussels sprouts annually, maintaining the freshness and quality of every single vegetable is crucial. One leading agricultural business, known for supplying some of the UK’s top supermarkets, faced an unexpected issue during peak season. The company, which handles more than 60 million servings of sprouts each year, needed to ensure its produce moved efficiently from field to fridge without compromise. But when heavy rainfall threatened this delicate balance, Polygon was brought in to help.

First-Class Fix for Surrey Cricket Club

To prepare effectively for a longer season, cricket teams often begin training earlier in the year. This has traditionally meant travelling abroad to warmer climates, an expensive option that doesn’t always provide the most relevant playing conditions. Practising on a hard South African wicket, for example, is far from ideal for a damp UK season opener. On the other hand, indoor training back home doesn’t offer the optimal surface either.

Environmental Control for Joinery Installation

A major contractor has recently undertaken the construction of a new college facility in East London’s regeneration into a creative and cultural hub. High-expense joinery was due to be installed across all 14 levels of the build, but in order to do this, temperatures and humidity levels had to remain within pre-set parameters so as not to stress the wood. Stressing the wood would result in delays on site due to expanding, shrinking and perhaps breaking of the wood.
