Lithium Battery Fire in Major Warehouse

A lithium battery for a forklift truck was on an ultra-fast charging point, which caught fire in the main warehouse while charging. Due to the warehouse build and active production environment, this caused soot contamination throughout the building, extending into the chiller, ambient, and freezer warehouse sections. The contamination affected the building structure, racks, and all surfaces.

Aberdeen Music Hall

The Aberdeen Music Hall is currently undergoing a £7m transformation in a bid to bring it back to its former glory as a concert venue of renown. The project, which began in 2016, is heading into its final stages and is due to be unveiled in a grand reopening in December 2018. Overseen by Kier Construction, the revamp has been an extensive undertaking. One particular element of the restoration required specialist input, which is where our teams unique skillset came into play.

Vita project University of Birmingham

Located on the site of the former BBC Pebble Mill Studios, the University of Birmingham’s Vita development comprises 357 high-specification, self-contained studios. Situated on Pershore Road, the 115,000 sq ft development is split into three tiered towers of four, five, and six storeys. As well as student accommodation, the buildings include bookable private dining facilities, study rooms, a gaming room, a cinema, and a gym. Construction work was completed in mid-August 2019, just in time for the start of the academic year. The overall build was managed by Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure Ltd, with an estimated cost of £26m over a three-month period.

The Chapel Wharf Project

The Chapel Wharf Project, due for completion in December 2019, is one of the largest Private Rental Schemes (PRS) in the UK. It’s part of a major redevelopment of the area and consists of four apartment blocks, ranging from 11 to 23 floors in height. The project includes 995 residences made up of 1, 2, and 3-bedroom apartments. As part of their wider environmental commitment to reduce landfill and improve sustainability, Sir Robert McAlpine (SRM) brought in Polygon’s Surface Repair specialists’ skills to support the build by repairing rather than replacing damaged items throughout the construction.
